Every year when the moon turns new and kisses the sun in Libra the dawn of the lunar new year begins. In the sky we are not in Scorpio (as the western calendar follows) but still very definitely residing under the venusian sign of Libra. Vedic libra is not just about balance, harmony and beautifying our lives through romance and art. It also contains in it the most needed attribute in these times of justice. Justice pronounces respect for all and a genuine concern for all angles of existence; particularly the downtrodden, minority or forgotten. It is through libra we find the grace of humanity removing the ego and thirst for power. We love one another for the diversity that we all bring to the table.
It is in this new moon of Swati we have the most beautiful hindu festival of Divali - the lighting of the lamps. As we enter this new moon into the darkness (the darkest time of the year energetically as the sun is in Libra) we set the intention to light the soul. If you have a candle nearby tonight (and again I'm not liable for pyro-magic in your home) allow it to burn after the sun goes down throughout the night to the sunrise. This symbolises the divine in you holding light through these dark times and carrying you into the new lunar year. The moon safely dies and is reborn again into the new. Swati brings through the shakti to scatter like the wind. When in a lower octave it tends to rely on external change to provide this feeling but the higher octave is the inner winds of transformation. Constant external change (such as ending work, relationships, where you live) like a shallow rooted plant only causes less and less connection to the earth minimising nutrients and a lack of feeling safe and grounded. But if you can bring the vayu/wind inside through breathwork containing the prana (life) the change of the inner landscape is where the magic truly begins. Allow the winds of change to shatter illusion, to quickly shift your perspective and find the ultimate clarity: that you are divine and always will be.
